This is a French tapestry that reads Fils Du Cheik. It depicts a scene from Valentino's film, The Son of the Sheik. My guess is the tapestry is dated from the late 20's to early 30's. It depicts a great amount of detail on the tapestry itself, the ruins, Vilma Banky, Jaddan the horse, even Valentino looks realistic. This may have been produced without the consent of the studio, I am unusre.
If any collector out there has anymore information about this item, please leave a comment. These are fairly sought after by collectors, not a common item, most of the ones out there are owned by collectors and Grandmas who stuck them in a drawer!
Update: I spoke with Jim Craig about this, he told me he believes these were produced by a furniture company. That means these are very limited and most likely not mass produced.

I have a friend that has this tapestry and it is in excellent shape. Never hung and has always been wrapped up and put away. Could someone tell me what value this is and what he could possibly get for the tapestry should he try to sell it. I can be emailed at marykemp@thefreedomcenter-md.org. Thank you

Hi, are these still valuable? I just acquired one in NY and it's lovely and authentic. Just wondering the value ? I see between $200 - $700 for this tapestry. Had anyone sold one or auctioned one?
ReplyDeleteAnyone have info on this tapestry? Lol
ReplyDeleteI have one as well and it's in great condition. It does NOT have rips or holes in it nor does it have any smells. The back of it says, registered . But it does not have a number after, registered nor does it say Denmark. Any one know what it's worth currently. It's the same one as above. Thank you,

I have exactly this one,,it was my grandparents, they had a furniture factory in Culemborg, the Netherlands.so maybe they had some connections because its furniture fabric .it also says registered on the back,no number,i saw one at action for $1500,thats a bit steep i'd say
ReplyDeleteThey were produced by United Artists and made in Belgium. He died shortly after this last film. Furniture store. Lol
ReplyDeleteI was being sarcastic. It was made by one of the oldest tapestry makers in Belgium. They still make them today. If you look on the back very carefully you will see Belgium. This is common material for tapestries. I have some made with the material.
