Photos from Blood and Sand

These are five hard to find photos from the 1922 film, "Blood and Sand." Blood and Sand was a great movie with a great script. I found it to be very well acted and well filmed, even though the studio's original plan was to film part of the film in Spain, which did not happen. There are hundreds of thousands of stills from most of Valentino's more popular films, most of these stills are not too common. Four of the five photos are from Frau Wulf's website.

Spanish Mini Chocolate Card Fold Outs

This is a great, random item. The front of this mini booklet reads, "Galeria de las Estrellas del Cine," which translates to Gallery of the Stars of the Cinema. This was created from the Amatller Chocolate Company. There are fold out cards depicting Valentino from The Sheik, Blood and Sand, The Young Rajah, and Moran of the Lady Letty. I love finding items like this. I had no ideas things like this existed. It still amazes me just how many items are out there!

Swedish Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse Sheet Music

This is a rare piece of sheet music from 1923 from The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The sheet music is from Stockholm Sweden and is titled, "Tango Valentino." This is one of the coolest pieces of sheet music I have come across. Similar to many of the overseas movie posters there are various versions of overseas sheet music with different art work and designs. This is a piece that is not seen too often and would be fairly valuable, this is the first time I have come across this piece.

Rare Version of The Conquering Power Movie Poster

This is a rare version of a movie poster from the film, "The Conquering Power." Items from this film are fairly difficult to find. This was the third of five films Valentino made in 1921. This film was released before The Sheik. Valentino was showcased in The Four Horsemen; but, really did not hit stardom until The Sheik. With all of this in mind this film was not overly marketed. This is a rare, hard to find poster that would look nice hanging in my house somewhere.

Candid Photos of Valentino

Here are five great candid photos of Valentino that you do not see too often. It is amazing just how many photos are out there that I have never seen. Valentino had to be one of the most photographed movie stars of his time.

The Son of the Sheik Press Kit

This is a press kit booklet sent out from the poster production company to various movie theaters. These are fairly difficult to find. This particular one is from the re-release of SOS. It is amazing to see some of the prices, for example: One Sheet for 10 cents, a three sheet for 30 cents, or how about 100 window cards for $6!! If I only had a DeLorean!

1922 Movie Weekly Magazine

This is a Movie Weekly Magazine from 1922. It features Valentino on the cover from the film, Beyond the Rocks. The magazine asks, "Is Rodolph Valentino a Bigamist?" This was during all of the Bigamy drama with Natacha and Jean Acker. This is not a common edition of Movie Weekly, you just do not see this one too often. I am still looking for this one myself.

This is a Valentino Tango Record. There are many variations of this record and cover. These gained popularity after the 1951 film Valentino was released. These are not very valuable, just another random item to buy for the collection!

Five Photos from Cobra

Here are five photos from my favorite Valentino film, "Cobra." The movie co-stars the sultry Nita Naldi. She vamps him throughout the entire film, which is a common theme throughout Valentino/Naldi films. Even though this is not as popular as The Sheik films or The Four Horsemen, I find his acting in this film to be very polished and advanced, I may be a bit biased though. Anyway great film, and great photos from the film.

Rudolph Valentino Award and Program

These are two items from the Rudolph Valentino Awards Ceremony. The Rudolph Valentino Awards started in 1972, it honors lifetime achievements in international film. The last two recipients that I am aware of was Meryl Streep and Andy Garcia in 2010. There is a website that further explains the awards and past winners. The list of former winners are very impressive. The first photo shows Glenn Ford's award from 1977, the second is a photo of a program from the ceremony. The statue has since changed but is still a fantastic depiction of Valentino. The awards themselves are obviously very difficult to come by. The programs show up from time to time. This is yet a few more pieces of Valentino memorabilia that us collectors have to hunt down and buy.

French Sheik Movie Poster

This is a vibrant French Movie Poster from the 1921 film, "The Sheik." The poster reads, "Le Cheik." The art from the poster is the same as the art from the French paperback book of The Sheik. This is still a valuable poster; however, to Valentino collector's this would most likely be valued less than most Valentino posters due to the fact that only a crude depiction of Valentino appears on the poster. It is still a wonderful poster

Spanish Eyes of Youth Magazine

This is a miniature Spanish magazine from the 1930's. It depicts Valentino and Clara Kimball Young from the film, "Eyes of Youth." The front of the magazine reads, "Biblioteca Films, El Camino Del Amor, which translates to Library Films, The Way of Love. The magazine contains a insert photo of Valentino. This is a great little magazine. It is not too often that Eyes of Youth is featured on the front of a magazine.

Lobby Card from Blood and Sand

This is one of my favorite lobby cards from Blood and Sand. It is a very colorful card that features Valentino and co-star Nita Naldi. The card depicts one of my favorite scenes from the film where she seduces him by playing the harp. Many of the desirable lobby cards seem to be more scarce. Most are already in collections out there, that is, for the ones that have survived over the past 90 years, which is how old this film is. Lobby cards such as this can be quite valuable, even though they are a fraction of the cost of an original poster which can easily bring five figures.

Photos from Monsieur Beaucaire

These are five photos from the 1924 film, "Monsieur Beaucaire." Not one of the most popular Valentino films out there; however, there are some fantastic collectible items and photos from the film. Some of these are not found to often.

Newspaper Advertisement for The Eagle

This is a great newspaper clipping, advertising The Eagle. It is from the re-release, because it states modernized with music and sound. I like the three photos of Valentino in the ad showcasing him in three different costumes / scenes from the film. These clippings are a great, reasonable way to get your collection started, they also look great framed if you room on your wall, which of course I do not!

1925 Cuban Cobra Magazine

This is a magazine from 1925 depicting Valentino from the film, "Cobra." The magazine is called Carteles, which translate to Posters. These magazines are not too common. I do know that Valentino appeared on the cover of this publication various times. This is not an overly valuable magazine, but you still have to add it to the collection.

Beyond the Rocks Movie Poster

This is a colorful, vibrant, classic movie poster depicting Gloria Swanson and Valentino from the film, "Beyond the Rocks." This is a rare, and hard to find poster from the 1922 film. There are so many different variations of posters that exists for each film. It is amazing just how many of them I have never seen before, including this one. I also find it interesting the poster has Henry Clive's signature on the bottom, the same artist who was responsible for the Canco Tins, one of The Sheik posters and many other items as well. This is truly a fantastic piece.

Photos of The Strand Theater Showcasing The Sheik

These are two fantastic photos depicting The Strand theater when The Sheik was playing. There is an original movie poster in the framed stand out front along with various lobby cards, window cards and etc. I am unable to see if the all the items are from The Sheik or not, I just find it to be a fascinating photo. The second one depicts a fan or theater worker dressed in his best Sheik garb posing by the poster, I would guess a fan; but, who knows. I really find these photos to be fantastic, you just do not see these types of photos around too often.

Assorted Rudolph Valentino Busts

I found this photo on an auction house website a while back. These are various busts and possibly wall hangings that had been auctioned off...I always miss these things. Side note, I cannot tell you how many times I have gone into an antique mall or old country collectibles store where I inquire about any Valentino items and they proceed to tell me they had this or that and just recently sold it, oh well, I digress. This is a wonderful collection depicting Valentino from The Four Horsemen, The Son of the Sheik, and possibly The Sheik. Some appear to have been mass produced while other could have been privately made. If anyone has any further information, please let me know. I believe this lot sold for a fairly substantial amount. If they are truly vintage I would believe them to be fairly valuable.

Glass Slide from The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

This is a rarely seen Glass Slide from the film, "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. As stated in earlier posts, many glass slides are difficult to find in today's market that are not cracked or broken. They were often hand painted, which can lead to many different variations of the same slide. One other note on this item, not all of the marketing merchandise featured Valentino, it is great to see him featured on this piece. The photo is from emovieposter.com
