2010 Memorial Service Program

This is the program from the 2010 Memorial Service which takes place at Hollywood Forever (Memorial) Cemetery. The service has been held every year since his death in 1926, on the day of his death, August 23rd, at the time he died, 12:10 in the afternoon. It is the longest running memorial service for any Hollywood celebrity. My understanding is that the event can become quite a spectacle.

This year makes the 84th year of the service, I will be attending this year, the first year I have been able to make it out there, I am looking forward to the event. Let me know if any of you plan on attending, we could possibly meet up to discuss Valentino, his films, and of course his collectibles.

  1. Hi Brad! I myself cou;d never go. I don't think those people are sincere at all, and alot of "fans" are attention seekers looking for thier time in the spotlight. That's not how you honor a person's life.

  2. To begin with, I have never attended the yearly Memorial Service, so for me to pass judgment on anyone who has would not necessarily be accurate. It does appears that some people attend for the attention; however, I have to believe that most people genuinely are fans of Valentino and feel it is a positive thing to show respect for him. Attendees include fans, collectors, celebrities, authors, and even Valentino's own family members. I am grateful this service is still being held after 84 years. I am also proud that Valentino's service is the longest running celebrity service in Hollywood. Even though all attendees intentions may not be genuine, for those of us who are truly fans of his life and films, I feel it is a wonderful way to honor him and his family. I am looking forward to attending along with meeting other fellow collector's and fans.

  4. Well that's fine and well. Having seen the videos on youtube and the pictures of the service plus the over emphasizing on the "Lady in Black" rather then his life and work, was more then enough to hinder my original plans to go.

  5. Chris, I wish you would just allow fans show their tribute to him as they wish. No one needs your 'approval'

It's all apart of the Valentino legacy. It's life.

Also Brad I hope you have a great trip, this blog is a great reference to learning more about his career.

  6. Sorry about the venom. I'm an opinionated individual and always will be. I hope Brad has a marvelous time and disproves all I have been told about this thing.
    No approval needed.
    Peace.

  10. I'd love to attend this year, but as with other events that take place at the Cemetery (like the summer movie screenings), I fear it might be more of a hassle than it's worth. (Plus, it's on a weekday, and I doubt my boss would let me leave work for it, LOL.)

I look forward to a full report from this site to gauge whether or not I might attend next year! :-)
