Photos from The Eagle

The following are five photos from the film, The Eagle. I really find this film to be what I call a modern silent film. I feel it serves as a precursor to the action/adventure films of the 1930's. Furthermore, another great Valentino film with many different costumes, and exceptional acting. This ends my movie review, haha, it is a bit comical to think of an Italian playing a Russian soldier, but...it works!

  1. On his birthday, TCM is playing six of the Valentino films you haven't seen in awhile, including the fabulous restored version of FOUR HORSEMEN that's not available on dvd. I have 'em all but I'm still going to watch them on tv. Six in a row...yippeee!!!

  3. The Eagle is the best. I've never seen the Photoplay restored version on TCM and it's not yet available on dvd. Frankly, my old VHS of the Thames Video release is much better than the Image dvd version. I don't think the Thames version produced by Brownlow and Gill was ever released on dvd, only laser disc and vhs. Unfortunately TCM isn't showing The Eagle as part of the birthday celebration. Sniff.

  4. As Rudolph grew older, he grew more handsome or maybe the photography was enhancing ?

I thought this movie had fantastic coustumes, not just Rudolph's alone, the whole cast.

  5. I agree, I do feel this film is a great example of a sophisticated silent film, with great sets and great costumes. It is one of my favorite Valentino films.

  6. Ana, the only version I have seen is the VHS version, the Thames one is the one I own as well. As far as restored Valentino films, it is one of the best copies I have seen.

  7. It is the best you can buy right now. Image has a dvd version but it is inferior. I understood that just like "Four Horsemen", there is a Photoplay Productions edition of The Eagle that has not yet been released. You have to catch Four Horsemen on TCM May 6th and record it. You have NOT seen that film til you've seen that restored version.
    Lindsay,
I agree that Rudy was at his handsomest in his last films. But then I think most men peak in their 30's, when they lose the baby face and the jaw squares. Grrrr...
