Rudolph Valentino and Pola Negri First Prize...500th Post and 1 Year Anniversary of this Blog!

Well, this is my 500th post, it is also the one year anniversary of this blog. I started this blog of Rudolph Valentino Collectibles one year ago today as a way to showcase various Valentino items. It is a long story how I became a Valentino fan, I will save that for another time. But, once I started getting more and more interested in Valentino, I came across the book, "The Intimate Life of Rudolph Valentino," by Jack Scagnetti. In the back of the book were photos of Michael Back's collection. I thought is was so interesting to have a collection of Valentino items, I began my own. I used Scagnetti's book as a guide to see exactly what was out there. I always thought it would be nice for collectors and fans to be able to see photos of various items that existed, thus this blog was born. I truly appreciate all of the kind and gracious feedback and input from all of you. Along with all that follow this blog. I truly enjoy being a Valentino fan and collector, and I really enjoy working on this blog as often as I can. Thank you all so much for being a part of it!

Now, a special post for #500. In 1926 Valentino and Pola Negri attended a costume party. Valentino wore his suit of lights from Blood and Sand, Pola went as a Spanish Dancer of sorts. The couple won first prize at the party. The first prize gift was this pair of sterling silver goblets that have the following engraved in both, Rudolph Valentino, Pola Negri, 1926. These goblets are truly a one of a kind set and would be invaluable to any collector.

  5. Just keep checking on ebay, you will find things for reasonable prices, you just have to be patient. I have seen things on there for a few hundred dollars, a month later the same item can sell for $25, it is totally random. I have a few extra books and sheet music I can sell you for reasonable prices. If you want to click on my profile and email me, let me know what you have and what you are looking for I can check. Regardless, good luck on finding items!

  6. I spoke with a lady who i found on twitter, she has a valentino lot she's selling for $250 UK, it includes sheet music, day dreams original print plus a few modern books from hala pickford....her asking rate for shipping to Canada is $80 UK, i was thinking of bidding but the currency is basically double.

  7. Lindsay,

I saw this auction on ebay. The only piece of value is the UK edition of Daydreams with the dustcover. That book would easily go for $400 to $500 and up; however, I am unsure how the UK shipping process works for a few books; but, $120 U.S. dollars seems a bit excessive. The other four books and three pieces of sheet music should be valued around $100 or so. It is a best offer auction, if you were able to get the whole lot plus shipping for around $300 would be great, U.S. dollars. You may want to double check with her about the shipping, maybe it is a typo. Good luck, keep me posted!

  8. Thanks again,

Lol it's hard for me to follow all the comments as I have to scroll through each post, can I subscribe to comments lol.

I talk with the girl through twitter, the shipping is not a mistake, I'm still weighing out the idea of bidding.

    Thanks again for the reply.

  9. Lindsay,

I try to respond to all comments posted. I believe you can have the comments emailed to you if you click on "Subscribe by email," below.

As far as that auction, again you are manily bidding on the Daydreams book, I still do not understand why the shipping is so much, I mean if you get the auction for $300 U.S. dollars it will cost an additional $120, almost have of the cost of the items to be shipped. You may want to wait. One other place to find Rudy books is abe.com. They normally have about 1000 Rudy books on there at any given time. Occasionally, you can find some great deals on there, check it out. Also, I do have duplicate books and sheet music if you are looking for anything in partiuclar, let me know. Good Luck!

  10. These are outstanding. Do you know if they are in a private collection or museum? By the way, did you see the silver cup on ebay that was given as a prize by the Valentinos for the winners of a dancing contest during the 1923 Mineralava Tour? Any thoughts?

  11. These are actually in my collection. This is one of the few personal items I own. I did see the trophy on ebay. It is fantastic, there are a few of these out there, not a one of a kind item, except for the fact that they will different people's name on each trophy. They toured all over the U.S. I am unsure if anyone really knows the value, what they are asking may not be too far off. It is really difficult to say.

  13. Did they get one goblet apiece or did they each get a set? In which case, were these Pola's or Rudy's?
