Rudolph Valentino Photos from The Eagle

These are five photos from the film, "The Eagle." This was Valentino's second to last film, it is truly a great film. If you have a Valentino interest and have not seen this one, you must watch it, you will not be disappointed. The fourth photo depicts director Clarence Brown, Vilma Banky, Valentino along with two other gentlemen. I believe the one bowing is Erich Von Stroheim. He was a silent movie director and later had a supporting role in one of my favorite films, Sunset Blvd.

Son of the Sheik Miniatures by Arline Smith

Typically I am not a big fan of homemade collectibles; however, I received an email from Arline Smith who creates handmade miniatures. She has painstakingly re-created a scene from The Son of the Sheik. These are handmade, one of a kind items. A great deal of work went into creating these, according to Arlene: "The fabric patterns were produced using a variety of processes, including hand-painting, printing and appliqué, but some liberties were taken with the bed fabric; to reproduce the original in miniature would have made the bed too fussy and over-worked. The candelabra and hanging light are electrified, and the scene is lit with miniature spotlights and coloured gels. In all, it took five months to complete." Rare Spanish Rudolph Valentino Chocolate Card

This is a rare Spanish Chocolate Card. I do not have a great deal of information about this card. The photo appears to be from the set of The Young Rajah. This was on ebay years ago and I saved the picture. Even though this is a rare card, that is not too often found, most of the tobacco and chocolate cards are not extremely valuable...well except to people like me who are looking for one of everything.

A Few Rare Photos from A Sainted Devil

These are five photos from the film, "A Sainted Devil." I enjoy finding photos from lost films that I have never seen before. A few of these I just recently found. The first photo shows Valentino with Helena D'Algy, of all the stills from this film I have seen, I have never seen Valentino in this particular costume. I hope this film is found in the next few years.

Swedish Movie Herald for Blood and Sand

This is a Swedish Movie Herald from the film, "Blood and Sand." It is dated 1923, even though the film was released in 1922, it is an orginal movie hearld. This is a very different variation from the U.S. edition. I do not own this one myself...yet. This version is more difficult to find compared to the U.S. edition.

1970's Rudolph Valentino Button

This is a button of Valentino from The Sheik. This button was produced in the 1970's. There were many Valentino collectible items produced in the 70's. There was a resurgence of classic movies stars from the 20's, 30's, and 40's during this time. These buttons are not extremely common, but not highly valuable. Essentially, it is another item that an obsessed collector like myself will have to buy just to say I have it!

Re-Issue Lobby Cards from The Eagle

These are three re-issue Lobby Cards from the film, "The Eagle." The Eagle was one of many of Valentino's major films that was re-released after his death. These lobby cards are simple black and white scenes from the film. These cards are not as valuable as the original release lobby cards; however, they are still sold for about half of what the originals sell for. These are an economical way to own a Valentino lobby card.

Spanish Rudolph Valentino Magazine from 1932

This is a Spanish magazine from 1932 called Films Selectos. The magazine depicts Valentino and Vilma Banky from the film The Son of the Sheik. This is not a common magazine; however, Valentino was on many magazine covers after his death throughout the late 20's and early 30's.

For Valentino's birthday I thought I would list a few of my favorite photos that I have not posted yet. This is the 115th anniversary of his birth. It is amazing the following he still has to this day. Happy 115th birthday Rudy!

Photos from The Son of the Sheik

These are five great photos from the film "The Son of the Sheik," which to my knowledge is the first movie sequel. Does anyone know of any sequel before this film? In this film, Valentino played two roles: The Sheik, and The Son of the Sheik. The third photo depicts Valentino as the older, Father of the Sheik. This is from the scene where the film uses a split screen to capture Valentino in both roles in the same frame. To my knowledge, this is the first use of this technique as well. These photos are more unique and not as common as most from the film.

Rudolph Valentino Tango's Albums

These are three different variations of "Rudolph Valentino Tangos." These were produced in the 50's, 60's, and 70's. Valentino had nothing to do with the albums, it was a marketing ploy to sell their albums, capitalizing on Valentino's tango from The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. There are many differnt cover variations of these albums, along with 33's and 45's. Of the three variations below the top version is the most difficult to find; however, these are all very common.

Rudolph Valentino The Sheik Re-Issue Window Card

This is a copy of a Re-Issue Window Card from the film, "The Sheik." I really like the fact that is depicts a color close-up of Valentino in one of his many "stares" from the film. This is an example of a mass produced copy. If this were an original re-issue lobby card it would be quite valuable, mainly because of the large, color depiction of Valentino.

Photos from The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

These are five photos from the film, "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse." This was Valentino's first starring role in a film. June Mathis noticed his work in a film called "Eyes of Youth," she was ultimately responsible for landing him the part of Julio Desnoyers. This film features the famous tango scene. Valentino was not credited with the film's success; however it was the turning point in his career, a few months later he filmed, "The Sheik."

1926 Rudolph Valentino Golf Tournament Trophy

400th Post! Alright, for each big posts, i.e. 100, 200, 300, I like to post a special or rare item. This is a one of kind item from 1926. About a month before Valentino died he presented this trophy at a gold tournament at the Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles. The trophy reads: "Rudolph Valentino Trophy, Exhibitors and Exchangemens Golf Tournament, Hillcrest Country Club, July 15, 1926. The trophy was presented by Valentino himself. This is truly a one of a kind item.

Italian Rudolph Valentino Character Tobacco Style Card

This is an Italian collector's card with a character depiction of Valentino dancing the tango and a side profile view. The depiction is a bit over-the-top, but since it is a Valentino collectible, of course I had to buy one. They are fairly common.

Film Journalen Magazine from Blood and Sand

This is a Norwegian magazine called Film Journalen. I have posted a few of these magazines before, these are great, oversized magazines with impressive covers depicting Valentino from various roles. This particular one depicts Valentino from the film, Blood and Sand. These magazines are not too common.

Danish Movie Herald from Monsieur Beaucaire

This is a Danish Movie Herald from the film, Monsieur Beaucaire. This version of the Monsieur Beaucaire movie herald is not as colorful and vibrant as the U.S. version; however, it is more difficult to come by.

The Son of the Sheik Art/Painting

This is a fantastic painting of Valentino from the film, "The Son of the Sheik." This is not an acutal movie poster, it is an artful rendition of Valentino from the film. I am unsure of the size, but it is a magnificent piece.

Photos from Uncharted Seas

These are two photos from the film, "Uncharted Seas." This film is no longer in existence, or I like to refer to it, "lost." This film was made in 1921, one of five Valentino starred in that year, it was made after The Four Horsemen. The film also stars Alice Lake as well. Items from this film are very difficult to find as well. Often, this tends to be the "forgotten" Valentino film. I hope someone finds it over the next few years.
