This is a rare glass slide from the 1924 lost film, A Sainted Devil. I really enjoy finding items from lost films. This is the first glass slide from 'A Sainted Devil" I have come across. Items from A Sainted Devil are very sought after and very collectible, this one is no exception.

Glass Slide from The Eagle
This is a Glass Slide from the 1925 film, The Eagle. As I have stated with other Glass Slide posts, these are difficult to find without cracks or chips. Most of these were hand painted. While these were in use, I am sure no one ever considered these to be collectibles one day, as with most things we collect today. Valentino Glass Slides are still very desirable and in good condition can be quite valuable.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse Glass Slide
This is a Glass Slide from the film, "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. This slide is from the re-release of the film. Notice the glass slide states the return of The Four Horsemen and it also states, starring Valentino. When the film was first released he was not known as simply "Valentino." This slide matches the title card for the re-release as well. As stated previously, glass slides are difficult to find in excellent condition, most are broken, cracked, or chipped from improper storage. Many early slides were hand painted which brings a whole new level to collecting these, there are often countless variations of one slide. There are now reproductions of many of these slides produced today, unfortunately, I am not an expert in telling the difference between the two, I currently do not own any glass slides from his films, so beware of a few reproductions here and there. The photo is from emovieposter.com

Glass Slide from The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse
This is a rarely seen Glass Slide from the film, "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. As stated in earlier posts, many glass slides are difficult to find in today's market that are not cracked or broken. They were often hand painted, which can lead to many different variations of the same slide. One other note on this item, not all of the marketing merchandise featured Valentino, it is great to see him featured on this piece. The photo is from emovieposter.com

Glass Slide from Camille
This is a Glass Slide from the 1921 film, "Camille." Notice the top billing for Nazimova. This film was released in between The Four Horsemen and The Sheik. The Sheik was Valentino's next film, which really propelled his stardom. These Glass Slides are fantastic collectibles and tend to be fairly valuable in good condition.

The Son of the Sheik Glass Slide
This is a glass slide from the film, "The Son of the Sheik." Most of the glass slides, this one included are very vibrant in color and are great collectibles. As I have stated with other Glass Slide posts, most are hand painted and are difficult to find without cracks in the glass. I still have yet to buy one from a film for my collection. They tend to be pricey if they are in good condition. This particular photo I found at emovieposter.com

Glass Slide from The Delicious Little Devil
This is a Glass Slide from the re-release of the film, "The Delicious Little Devil." This is one of those items from one of Valentino's films that was re-released when he hit popularity. Originally, he has a supporting role in the film; however, was so popular fans wanted to see anything with him in it. These early re-release items are still very valuable and highly sought after. This image is from the website emovieposters.

Monsieur Beaucaire Glass Slide
This is an excellent example of an original glass slide. The glass slide is from the 1924 film, “Monsieur Beaucaire.” The particular slide is cracked, which is very common for slides from this era. However, the crack does not distort the image. The vibrant colors of this particular slide would make this one more desirable and more valuable. I bid on this one on ebay and lost out, so if you won this recent auction, you outbid me! It was definitely a great addition to someone’s collection, if you get tired of it, let me know.

The Young Rajah Glass Slide
This is a wonderful example of a Glass Slide from the 1922 film, "The Young Rajah." As I have stated in previous glass slide posts, they were often hand painted and many did not survive over the years. Most of the ones that did survive are cracked or broken. They are often fairly valuable if they are not damaged. This is the first example I have come across from The Young Rajah. I bid on this one and missed out on it, it is a great example of glass slide from the 20's.

Glass Slide from The Conquering Power
This is a glass slide from the film, The Conquering Power from 1921. Glass slides were used in movie theaters as a still trailer to preview upcoming films. It was placed in front of the movie camera so that it was reflected on the screen. These were often hand painted, so the same slide may now be found in many color variations. These are difficult to find with out cracks, chips or breaks, they are fairly fragile. The more colorful ones in good shape can be quite valuable. I am still looking for this one myself. I find these to be unique movie collectible items, this was just one more marketing tool to promote the film.

Rudolph Valentino and his 88 American Beauties Glass Slide
This is a glass slide for a film short called Rudolph Valentino and his 88 American Beauties. Glass Slides were utilized by movie studios and theaters to promote upcoming and other attractions, think of it as a movie preview, only it was not a clip, just a slide show. This short featured Valentino judging a beauty contest. This occurred in 1923, while he was having contract disputes with Famous-Players, so any new footage of Valentino was a sought after commodity for his fans. Glass slides are very collectible and are often found cracked or broken, this one is especially unique because it is not for one of his feature films. One last thing these have been reproduced so, do some research before making a purchase.

Son of the Sheik Glass Slide
This is a glass slide from the film, "The Son of the Sheik," from 1926. The glass slide was the movies first version of a "movie trailer." It was a way to show the audience coming attractions. Most original Valentino glass slides ( there are replicas out there) are colorful and not too easy to find. Many older glass slides are cracked and broken, condition is everything with these. These normally start around $100.

Rare Glass Slide, Post Valentino's Death
This is a rare glass slide with an image of Valentino from the film, A Sainted Devil. This had to be a very offensive message to his family, fellow actors, and his fans. The slide reads:
My Friends and Admirers
I want you to know I am dead only in body. It now lies in a places belonging to a person not yet dead.
When death takes that friend my body again will be moved and in another generation it will find a final resting place in the potters field. So I wish to take this opportunity to beg my friends in Hollywood to buy for me a final resting place and attend to it as soon as possible, then I will be happy.
I wish to have it known I was murdered by a jealous woman because I would not consent to her divorcing her husband and marrying me. I wish my friend Ulman to be in charge of the money for my final resting place, because he is honest; not my Brother or Sister as they only love me for my money as do some women of the silent pictures, who try to make people think I was in love with them, when they know I did not care for their company.
I am
Rudolph Valentino
After Valentino's death there were many rumors about his death, one of the many rumors was that he was poisoned by a jealous husband, this slide suggests a jealous wife. Regarding his brother and sister, I know of no ill feeling he had toward them. During this time there was talk about where to bury Valentino, originally it was to be in Italy; however he ended up in one of June Mathis's crypts. The slide also makes mention of his business manager George Ullman; however, Ulman, with one l, is misspelled.
The part that bothers me the most is that the slide attempts to speak for Valentino after his death, it seems a disrespectful act so soon after his death. I am unsure about the source of this slide. It could have been something created by the movie studios, George Ullman, or possibly a local theatre owner, I am unsure. I have never come across another one of these slides, this is a great example of a random Valentino item.

Blood and Sand Glass Slide
This is a fantastic glass slide for the film, "Blood and Sand." Most of the items from this film are very colorful, this slide is no exception. Most glass slides are valuable, due to the fact that there are not a large number of them left in existence. A great deal of them are cracked or the paint is chipped, therefore the ones out there in good condition are valuable.

Glass Slide from Cobra
This is a fantastic glass slide from the film, "Cobra." This is my all time favorite Glass Slide, not only because Cobra is my favorite film; it is because of the fantastic depiction of Valentino with the Cobra along with the vibrant colors. I am on the lookout for this one!
