This is another wonderful example of a vintage overseas magazine depicting Valentino on the cover. The magazine is dated October 1926. After Valentino's death in August of 1926, he graced the cover of every magazine and newspaper for months after. This particular magazine depicts an artist's rendition of Valentino from the 1921 film, The Sheik. I really enjoy these unique covers from outside of The United States.

100,000 Page Visits!
We have officially passed the 100,000 mark for page visits to the Valentino Collectibles Blog! I really enjoy working on the blog, (when I have the time), along with all the input, comments, and contributions all of you have made! I still have many items from my personal collection to post, along with hundreds of images I have obtained over the years from various websites. I thought I would include a screensaver of Rudy from The Sheik. I found this on a screensaver website a few years ago called ClassicSavers.com. Thanks again for visiting the blog and for all of your contributions and interest!

Rudolph Valentino Miniature Sheik Bust
This is a miniature Bust of Valentino from what appears to be from the film, The Son of the Sheik. The base of the bust reads: Rudolph Valentino. It stands about 3 and a half inches tall. It is very heavy and appears to be made from some sort of metal or heavy duty plaster. My assumption is that these were produced in the 20's after his death. These do show up on ebay from time to time. The ones I have seen sell for a fair amount of money. Outside of seeing these on ebay, I have not come across these before. I did post a photo of various busts that was sold at an auction and believe there was one or two in that lot as well. Overall, this is a great Valentino memento. If anyone else has any further background on these let me know.

2 Page Magazine Advertisement for The Sheik
This is a wonderful 2 page magazine ad for the 1921 film, "The Sheik." Besides this being a fantastic ad, with great art work and photos of the film, there are a few things to take note of. This was Valentino's 5th and final film from 1921. His first being The Four Horsemen, which was his first big role. The studio's did not credit the success of The Four Horsemen exclusively because of Valentino, but continued to feature him in various roles in 1921. The Sheik turned Valentino into a major star overnight. Notice the top of this ad it reads: a George Melford Production with Agnes Ayres and Rudolph Valentino. One final thing to mention is the photo on the second page depicts Valentino in a white suit which is from the lost ending. I call it the lost ending because all of the variations of The Sheik I have seen does not depict Valentino in a white suit. I have posted some photos of this scene. This is a great piece and is great for framing. These are not too valuable; however they are great pieces of original memorabilia from 1921.

The Sheik Promotional Card / Postcard
This is one of the reasons I really enjoy working on the blog. I get to meet and correspond with many of you and sometimes many of you will send me photos of some of your Rudy treasures. Often, these treasures I have never seen or come across before now. Dee has sent me a very unique item, which I call random items, it is a handout for the 1921 film, The Sheik. It is a colorized postcard sized promotional card from Australia, from the Globe Theater. The card itself is scented with Indasia, which was some sort of fragrance. There is a lot of cross promotions going on here: Valentino, The Sheik, Indasia, and the Globe Theater, not bad, actually pretty smart. Anyway, who know how many of these were produced, I think it is a great item, it has a lot going for it, it is colorized and scented! It is definitely another one of those must have items for the collection. Great find and thanks for sharing Dee!

Artistic Photo from The Sheik
This is a great, framed photo of Valentino from the 1921 classic, "The Sheik." This photo was submitted from one of the blog's avid readers, Chris. I liked his description of the photo: "I found a picture of Rudy as The Shiek which I had framed in a second hand store frame and dulled brown with coffee. It looks awesome! Great idea, it turned out fantastic! For anyone out there you would like to share pieces of their collection, or maybe just their favorite photos or items, feel free to email me. I will post them for everyone to see. Thanks again Chris for your submission, keep them coming!

Photos from The Sheik
These are five photos from The Sheik. The Sheik is the quintessential Valentino film. The film co-starred Agnes Ayres and Adolphe Menjou. This is the film that truly launched Valentino into stardom. This was the first Valentino film I had ever seen, the rest is history. I highly recommend watching the version with the musical accompaniment from Roger Bellon.
The following are a few photos not commonly seen from the film, the photo of Valentino and Menjou is from Ana's collection!

Spanish Mini Chocolate Card Fold Outs
This is a great, random item. The front of this mini booklet reads, "Galeria de las Estrellas del Cine," which translates to Gallery of the Stars of the Cinema. This was created from the Amatller Chocolate Company. There are fold out cards depicting Valentino from The Sheik, Blood and Sand, The Young Rajah, and Moran of the Lady Letty. I love finding items like this. I had no ideas things like this existed. It still amazes me just how many items are out there!

French Sheik Movie Poster
This is a vibrant French Movie Poster from the 1921 film, "The Sheik." The poster reads, "Le Cheik." The art from the poster is the same as the art from the French paperback book of The Sheik. This is still a valuable poster; however, to Valentino collector's this would most likely be valued less than most Valentino posters due to the fact that only a crude depiction of Valentino appears on the poster. It is still a wonderful poster

Photos of The Strand Theater Showcasing The Sheik
These are two fantastic photos depicting The Strand theater when The Sheik was playing. There is an original movie poster in the framed stand out front along with various lobby cards, window cards and etc. I am unable to see if the all the items are from The Sheik or not, I just find it to be a fascinating photo. The second one depicts a fan or theater worker dressed in his best Sheik garb posing by the poster, I would guess a fan; but, who knows. I really find these photos to be fantastic, you just do not see these types of photos around too often.
Assorted Rudolph Valentino Busts
I found this photo on an auction house website a while back. These are various busts and possibly wall hangings that had been auctioned off...I always miss these things. Side note, I cannot tell you how many times I have gone into an antique mall or old country collectibles store where I inquire about any Valentino items and they proceed to tell me they had this or that and just recently sold it, oh well, I digress. This is a wonderful collection depicting Valentino from The Four Horsemen, The Son of the Sheik, and possibly The Sheik. Some appear to have been mass produced while other could have been privately made. If anyone has any further information, please let me know. I believe this lot sold for a fairly substantial amount. If they are truly vintage I would believe them to be fairly valuable.

1921 Newspaper Advertisement for The Sheik
This is an original 1921 Newspaper Advertisement for the film, "The Sheik." Above the movie art it states The Milwaukee Journal, November 29, 1921. This verifies the fact it is from 1921 and not a re-release. These are great collectibles, just don't expect to rich off of these.

Window Card Movie Poster from The Sheik
This is a rare version of a Window Card Movie Poster from the 1921 film, "The Sheik." This is a early, fantastic version of a movie poster from The Sheik. The art work, with the exception of The Sheik on the horse is not commonly seen on other advertisements for the film. A hard to find, valuable poster!

Rare Italian Sheik Felt Doll
This is a very rare doll that depicts Valentino from The Sheik or The Son of the Sheik. The doll is estimated to be from 1925. So, this could be a doll made in advance of the film or it could be made from The Sheik. Regardless, it is Valentino in a Sheik outfit. It is believed to be made from the Alma Doll Company from Italy. This is a super rare piece, not many of these dolls were produced. This would be a great addition for the Valentino that has just about everything else!
Swedish Movie Poster from The Sheik
This is a movie poster from the film, The Sheik. This poster is from Sweden. I am not 100% sure; however, it does not appear to original, it appears to be from a re-release. Again, I have no idea, just a guess. It is a unique poster that depicts a small scene from the film along with a mad, scowling depiction of Valentino. A very unique and hard to find poster!

Plaster Statue from The Sheik
This is a plaster statue of Valentino that stands about 9 inches tall from the film, "The Sheik." The base of the statue reads: The Sheik. I do not have a great deal of information on this item. Many items such as this were homemade, others were manufactured by companies. I am unsure which category this one falls under. If anyone has specific information on this item, let me know.

Original Michael Back Burnt Wooden Art
I am not real big on homemade items, this piece is an exception. This is a unique round, wooden art piece from Valentino collector, Michael Back. Some of Michael's collection was featured in Jack Scagnetti's book, The Intimate Life of Rudolph Valentino. Besides being a huge Valentino collector, Michael has an artistic talent and over the years has created many Valentino items. This is a great example of one of his burnt wood pieces, featuring Valentino from The Sheik. This is a wonderful, unique item.

Poster of Valentino from The Sheik
One of our newest followers, Janelle sent me this one. She is a Valentino fan as we all are, she found this poster a few years ago and has it proudly displayed. It depicts Valentino from the film, "The Sheik." The Sheik is one of my favorite Valentino films. This was the film that was released a few months after The Four Horsemen that really launched his career. Thanks for sharing Janelle and welcome.

1922 French Sheik Magazine
This is a wonderful magazine from 1922. It is called Bulletin Paramount, the magazine is in French, the top of the magazine reads, appearing every month. Valentino and Agnes Ayres appear on the cover from The Sheik. I like this particular magazine, this is not a common photo from the film on the cover. The magazine itself is not common either; but, not overly valuable. I am still looking for this one myself. It would be interesting to know just how many magazines Valentino appeared on the cover of in the 1920's, it has to be in the thousands, ehh, I have a lot of buying to do.
