I do enjoy the candid photos. I use the word candid loosely, candid photos to me are photos not from his films or non-studio poses. These are five great photos of Valentino outside of both of those arenas. The first one is a rare photo of Valentino and Natacha where Valentino has a mustache. I assume this was just before he grew out the goatee for their 1923 trip. Other photos include Valentino with his dogs, his horse, reading mail and a photo of him in his Four Horsemen gaucho outfit. I believe this photo to be from when he was out on the Mineralava tour where he and Natacha danced the tango in this costume.
This is a great Walgreen's Health and Beauty Magazine. The cover depicts Valentino and Natacha as they danced the tango when they were out on the Mineralava tour in 1923. This was during the time Valentino had contract disputes with Famous Players-Lasky, which is now Paramount. This tour was set up by George Ullman as a way for Rudy and Natacha to bring in income during this time. A great collectible magazine that is rarely seen.
This is an actual photograph of Valentino from in his gaucho costume from The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The photograph was taken at a Chicago photography studio. I am unsure if this is from 1921 during the time of The Four Horsemen or a couple of years later from the Mineralava Tour. I believe it is during the time of the Mineralava tour when he and Natacha toured the U.S.
This is a photograph of Valentino that reads, "Compliments of Mineralaba Co." This might have been given out during the promotional tour for Mineralava.
These are five postcards depicting Valentino during different times of his life. The first one is a studio style photo. The second one shows him sparring with a boxing partner as Jack Dempsey oversees the bout. The third one shows Valentino with his smoking pipe. The next one is a colorzied photo from Mae Murray's wedding. The final one is a photo of Valentino and Natacha from the Mineralava dancing tour.
This is a rare program from the Mineralava Dance Tour from 1923. I have never seen a program like this before. I find it unique because the tour reads: Rudolph Valentino and Winifred Hudnut, which is Natacha Rambova's real name, this is a very unique piece. A reader informed me this program is from Pueblo Colorado. If anyone has any scans from the inside pages, please send them on to me and I will post them!
This is an ad for Mineralava Beauty Creme featuring Valentino. When he was having problems with is contract with Paramount he and Natacha went out on dancing tours for Mineralava, where they danced the tango from The Four Horseman. They also used his image in magazine ads. These ads were massed produced but harder to find than I thought.
