1923 Danish Magazine

It's been way too long since I last posted on the blog.  Life tends to be too busy sometimes.  We all have to make time for the things we enjoy.  Ok, enough deep life thoughts, back to the Rudy items.  This is a Danish Movie Magazine from 1923.  I really do not have any further information other than it is an obscure magazine from the 20's.  The photo of Rudy depicts him from The Young Rajah.

Lobby Card from The Young Rajah

This is a vibrant, colorful Lobby Card from the 1922 film, The Young Rajah.  Most of the collectibles from this film contain rich, exotic colors.  This film was not a huge financial success, in this case, there was less promotional material available.  This film was lost for years, a partial copy was found and was pieced together along with movie stills.  Memorabilia from lost films tend to create a higher value.  Most people alive today has never seen any of these lost films, thus the only way to visually re-create it is from stills and various posters and lobby cards.  This is a wonderful example of a sought after lobby card.  Still looking for this one myself!

The Young Rajah Cine Revue

This is another great example of a French Magazine called Cine Revue.  This magazine produced some great, dramatic covers depicting Valentino.  This particular one features Valentino from the 1922 film, The Young Rajah.  Yet another great example of 1920's magazine with Valentino on the cover.

Rare Photos from The Young Rajah

Here are 5 photos from 1922 film, The Young Rajah.  These are great photos from a film that was lost for decades.  The version we have today is only a partial copy, with various scenes still missing.  Many of these photos are not seen too often.  There is one photo I found courtesy of Frau Wulf.

The Young Rajah Magazine Insert

Happy Easter!  This is a wonderful color insert from the 1922 film, They Young Rajah.  The insert is from the Girls Weekly Magazine from England.  It depicts a colorized image of Valentino and Wanda Hawley.  The bottom of the insert reads: Cinema Lovers No. 1.  The top of the insert is dated 1924. This is a wonderful color insert.  You do not see too many of these around, a wonderful piece.

Remembering Rudolph Valentino

Today marks the 86th anniversary of the death of Rudolph Valentino. He died on this day back in 1926. This is no new news to Valentino fans and collectors. I think it is strange to celebrate the day of someone's death, I look at it as a day or remembrance and reflection. Valentino has the longest running memorial service of any star in Hollywood. Today's will start, as it always has, at 12:10 Hollywood time, which is of course the time of his death. I am sure he would be amazed at the amount of followers and fans still exist today, 86 years later. The photo I am posting I found on a random website by an artist named Depo, it is a rendition of Valentino from The Young Rajah. Enjoy the day, watch a Valentino film, or buy yourself a new Valentino item.

The Young Rajah Insert Card

I know, that title is a bit confusing; however, I found this photo many years ago and have it filed under movie herald's. It appears to be the art for a window card, whatever it is, it is a fantastic, colorful piece of rarely seen movie art from the 1922 film, "The Young Rajah." This film is known for very colorful memorabilia, often depicting missing scenes from the current copy of the film that exists. If this window card exists it would be quite valuable, the same would go for the movie herald due to the rarity. With that in mind, a movie herald pales in comparison to an actual poster, it's just that both would be very desirable. If anyone has any further insight or information, feel free to comment. All in all, a wonderful, artistic piece.

The Young Rajah Newspaper Advertisement

This is a newspaper advertisement for the 1922 film, "The Young Rajah." This is an unusual ad for the film, that is not seen too often. As I have said time and time again, newspaper ads are not too difficult to find and are very reasonable. They look great in a scrapbook or in a framed collage. This ad lists the movie ticket prices, which are a few dollars less than today's prices, 35 cents for adults, or 25 cents for the matinee. 15 cents for kids, or 10 cents for kids for the matinee. To put that in perspective a loaf of bread during this time was about 12 cents a loaf, a gallon of gas was about 25 cents. I digress, from the interesting economic facts. This is a great example of a movie ad with artwork different from most of the promotional posters and lobby cards.

Spanish Mini Chocolate Card Fold Outs

This is a great, random item. The front of this mini booklet reads, "Galeria de las Estrellas del Cine," which translates to Gallery of the Stars of the Cinema. This was created from the Amatller Chocolate Company. There are fold out cards depicting Valentino from The Sheik, Blood and Sand, The Young Rajah, and Moran of the Lady Letty. I love finding items like this. I had no ideas things like this existed. It still amazes me just how many items are out there!

Fantastic 1922 Moving Picture World Magazine

This is a fantastic Moving Picture World magazine from 1922. It features a great profile photo of Valentino from the film, "The Young Rajah." This is a sharp looking magazine that you simply do not see too often. A great example of yet another magazine that Valentino graces the cover of.

The Young Rajah Newspaper Advertisement

This is a newspaper ad for the 1922 film, "The Young Rajah." This ad depicts unique artwork for the film. I find it fascinating to see the price list for the film at the bottom of the ad. Adults 35 cents, Children 15 cents, Adult Matinee 25 cents, Children 10 cents. These are great collectibles and can be found for a reasonable price.

Here are five photos from the film, "The Young Rajah." Most of these photos are rare and hard to find. Many items from this film are still highly sought after. Even though the film was recently found, the print is not a complete copy. Therefore, there are many photos that do not appear in the film. There are many great items from the film out there.

This is a newspaper advertisement from the 1922 film, "The Young Rajah." Even though these newspaper ads are not highly valuable I find them to be wonderful, original items to collect. They often depict photos or scenes not found on any other memorabilia from the film.

1926 Italian al Cinema Magazine

This is a magazine from 1926 called al Cinema. The magazine is Italian and depicts a photo of Valentino from The Young Rajah on the cover. Some of the vintage Italian items seems to be more difficult to come across. Not an overly valuable item; however, still desirable to someone like myself who does not own a copy.

1923 Rudolph Valentino Picture Show

This is a Picture Show Magazine from 1923. This was a magazine / newspaper from the U.K. This particular issue features Valentino from three of his films: Blood and Sand, The Moran of the Lady Letty and The Young Rajah. The cover states the following: What is wrong with some pictures, a candid criticism by Rudolph Valentino. This was during the time Valentino walked out of his contract with Famous Players Lasky after The Young Rajah. He and Natacha talked a great deal about "artistic integrity" in his films. This would be a great issue to have to read Valentino's side of the story. There are many Picture Show's with Valentino featured on the cover; however, these tend to be difficult to find.

The Young Rajah Glass Slide

This is a wonderful example of a Glass Slide from the 1922 film, "The Young Rajah." As I have stated in previous glass slide posts, they were often hand painted and many did not survive over the years. Most of the ones that did survive are cracked or broken. They are often fairly valuable if they are not damaged. This is the first example I have come across from The Young Rajah. I bid on this one and missed out on it, it is a great example of glass slide from the 20's.

The following are five photos from the film, "The Young Rajah." The film was made in 1922 and most of it was lost up to a few years ago. The copy out there is not a complete copy, so we as collectors can piece the film back together with many of the stills that are out there. A few of these photos are fairly rare and not seen to often. Valentino did not care for this film, he felt they were exploiting him, which they were, which was not difficult to understand.

The Young Rajah Magazine Advertisement

This is a magazine ad for the 1922 film, The Young Rajah. Many of the movie studios in the 20's used various magazines to advertise their films. Some were small ads in the back on the magazine, some were one to two pages ads. This particular one is a one page ad. Most of these types of ads are not as valuable as you think they would be; however, they look great framed and displayed on a wall....that is if you have any wall space left to display them.

These are five photos from the film, "The Young Rajah." The screenplay was wrote by June Mathis, who is pictured in the last photo on the set. This was the film that Valentino felt the studio was exploiting him and walked out on his contract. He and Natacha wanted more control of the films he was starring in, this film did not satisfy their wants and needs. This is yet another of Valentino's lost films that was recently found. The copy in existence is incomplete and is accompanied with spliced in stills to compensate for the lost footage. It is a rough copy in places, but is much better than no copy at all.
